CARDIAC REHABILITATION
Cardiac rehabilitation is a supervised programme designed to improve your cardiovascular health. It includes heart healthy living, exercise training classes and education on risk factor management. It is offered to people who have experienced a heart attack, angioplasty, heart surgery as well as to people who are being medically
managed for angina, heart failure or peripheral vascular disease and those who have had a stroke.
Physiotherapists trained in cardiac rehab will arrange for you to visit the clinic for an initial assessment. You will then be placed on an exercise training and education class for a period of 12 weeks. At the end of week 12, you will have a review of your progress with the team, in the aim of continuing the classes in the future. To take
part in cardiac rehabilitation, please do not hesitate in contacting the team here at DPRC.
PULMONARY REHABILITATION PROGRAMME
Pulmonary rehabilitation is a supervised program that includes exercise training, health education, and breathing techniques for people who have certain lung conditions or lung problems due to other conditions.
Classes will be run weekly, similar to those in Cardiac Rehabilitation.
PELVIC FLOOR AND CORE
Pelvic floor and core is a rehabilitation class designed specifically for women and men who are experiencing urinary or faecal incontinence, urgency/frequency of urination, and/or pain in the pelvic region. This includes: pain in the abdominals, buttocks, pelvic floor, tail bone, vagina, rectum, penis or testicles. The pelvic floor
muscles may become weak, tight or spastic as a result of childbirth, disuse, surgery or trauma.
Rehabilitation is aimed at restoring pelvic strength, reducing symptoms and improving core muscle strength.
ELDERLY-STRENGTH WITH AGE
These classes are based on improving the functional limitations and degeneration that occurs naturally with age. Symptoms of functional decline among the elderly include: loss of muscle strength, reduced balance, higher risk of falls, decreased mobility and independence. However, we can make a difference!
We have specialist Physiotherapists trained to improve your movement. Exercise classes and intensity will be based on each individual and their own level of ability. Strength training and physical activity have been shown to reduce the number of falls, fractures and over functional decline in older adults, thus keeping you independent for longer.
MOBILITY FOR SPORT
Mobility is the ability to move a limb through its full range of motion. Mobility training is the process in which you work to improve mobility in all or a single joint. Mobility should not to be confused with flexibility, which is simply the lengthening of a muscle or muscle group.
Take the hips for example. Let’s say I am experiencing hip pain due to the fact that my hamstrings are so tight, that they are creating a greater source of tension in my hips. Overtime, this tightness may cause my hips to rotate forward, that may then cause a shift in the normal positioning of my spine thus lead to disk or lower back
problems.
A fairly common injury that stems from poor mobility and lack of flexibility! In our mobility classes, we help you reduce these imbalances and reduce the risk for injuries. Mobility training will allow you benefit even greater from your exercise training by moving limbs through their respective full range of motion, thus creating
greater force production and improving overall performance.
